 Innovative Teaching Methodologies for Lesser Documented Languages and Language Documentation in the context of Digital Humanities

The workshop topics will focus on the areas of (1) developing innovative teaching methodologies, especially for lesser documented languages, (2) meeting the challenges for the documentation of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage in the context of digital humanities. Both of the areas require insights into the best practices, standards, and the actual procedures for dealing with legacy media, data and metadata storage, digitalization tools, as well as data management techniques. Use cases demonstrating the already existing innovative teaching methodologies will be discussed, also in the context of their application to COLING project outcomes. The discussion will cover both the aspects of documenting and developing innovative methodologies for lesser-documented languages as such, but also from the point of
view of bilingual, multilingual studies, and the Trans-Atlantic perspectives.

Case studies of heritage language teaching programs/projects among the native and migrant communities in Texas and the US – discussion of research perspectives and good practices.
The program will include talks delivered by
● researchers involved e.g., in the development of The Archive of the Indigenous
Languages of Latin America (AiLLA), The Center for Open Educational Resources &
Language Learning (COERLL) or Texas German Dialect Project (TGDP), and more;
● COLING project participants currently visiting / seconded to institutions in the
Americas.
